AMERICA, FUCK YEAH.

Okay, so, Captain America. I'll be honest, I absolutely love Marvel comics, I absolutely love shared fictional universes, and I absolutely love action movies, so I love love love the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a embarrassing degree. So you should probably take it with a grain of salt that I loved Captain America too. Probably the thing I love the most is that it ties the other films together beautifully—we already had the super soldier connection between Captain America and the Hulk, a project that it's now established that Howard Stark worked on. Which isn't nearly as awesome as the fact that we had enemy weapons powered with an artifact taken from Odin's weapon room, which was studied by Stark and undoubtedly was the inspiration behind the arc reactor that now fuels Tony's Iron Man suit.

Dude, that is glorious.

And of course, as a standalone, the movie was pretty damn good. Earnest!Steve is earnest—almost beyond belief, but, you know, that's what Captain America is. I want to see like infinite fics written about Steve's team, with Howard Stark as their Q inventing new tech and Peggy running all the recon and maybe even going on some missions, which of course didn't happen in the movie but why not, she was clearly an insanely good crack shot and this is apparently a universe where during WWII you can have a Japanese-American and African-American on the team and nobody even raises an eyebrow, which, you know, that doesn't seem exactly right. I give this movie more slack on this than I do, for instance, the X-Men, because Captain America is not freaking about persecution, but considering how overwhelmingly white the Marvel movieverse is, I wish they'd like, get a bit more on the ball here.

I ENJOYED THE MOVIE A GREAT DEAL. I laughed at all the right parts. Though whatever SFX they used to make Chris Evans look so short and thin look a bit wrong and weird and freaky, I have no idea what they did but it ended up in the uncanny valley a few times there.

So yes, fantasy feel-good action-oriented WWII movie. (Is this a genre?) I LIKED IT.

I have been hanging at my parents' house in the gap between living in Taiwan and living in Tucson, and it's actually been pretty nice; I've gotten most of the stuff I absolutely had to do before moving done, and I've been reading a ton, mostly all comics and old science fiction. I've got a place lined up with my friend [livejournal.com profile] asgardianing and a cell phone that works and will get me the Internet, and accordingly I am more often on Twitter and pretty much constantly on Gchat, but way less on the computer. I go like days without using the computer, it's pretty nice to be honest.

But I'm working! And reading and working. Hopefully saving up enough money to live through my last semester of college, that would be pretty cool.

And I just found out the sum total of all my student loans (thanks, FASFA!) and I'm pretty sure my degree's cost more than I'm worth. Like, you could buy me for less than the price I paid for three years at a public university. I would be sad about this but when it comes to my education and the price thereof I have transcended sadness. I am zen.
