Thanks to this monster I now have experienced every stage of G-LOC—I'm not actually sure about the loss of consciousness, because I can't remember that portion of the ride, which I think is a sign of sorts. It was very interesting and pretty thoroughly unpleasant and family members have asked if it was anything like blacking out when you stand up too fast. It isn't.
Visiting the Taiwanese Consolate gave me flashbacks to Chinese class and I half-expected someone to start yelling at me in Mandarin—"伍蘭妮,你知不知道?"—but I know what I need to do to get a resident visa issues to me while I'm still in the States, which means I'll need to get the ARC (Alien Resident Certificate ) within ... fifteen days? I really hope they help me with that at the school, along with the whole health insurance thing. That'll be my priority, that and getting a cell phone. The cell phone feels super important, and you need the ARC to get one, from what I understand. I remember trying to make public phone calls while lost in Okayama, Japan, and it was just a freaking nightmare. Do not want.
